Gr5 titanium alloy plate from the production link to reduce the cost of the method

Ti-6al-4v (Gr5) titanium alloy is a typical replenishment type two-phase titanium alloy. It has excellent comprehensive performance and is widely used in aerospace, aerospace, ships, weapons, chemical industry, medical treatment, sports and leisure fields.

Gr5 titanium alloy has become the international general purpose titanium alloy with complete specifications and the largest amount of industry among all the titanium alloy brands in the world.However, cost problems limit its widespread use.Countries around the world, especially the United States, Japan, Russia and China, are actively looking for ways and techniques to reduce costs.The cost of titanium alloy mainly depends on raw material cost and smelting and processing cost.In order to reduce the cost, on the one hand, cheap elements are adopted to reduce the cost of raw materials.On the other hand, improve the production process, reduce smelting and processing costs.

At present, the world's refining titanium sponge by Kroll method, there is no feasible low-cost production method instead of the method, therefore, in titanium sponge production technology before a major breakthrough, only through the use of low-cost alloying element method is difficult to reduce the cost of titanium alloy.However, in the production of titanium alloy, due to cutting head, cutting edge, surface turning cleaning and other processing needs, a large number of return materials will be produced.Because the cost of titanium alloy return material is only some additional cost of screening, crushing and cleaning, less than one third of the cost of titanium sponge.If the return material can be used in the process of alloy preparation, the cost can be significantly reduced.In the cost composition of titanium alloy sheet prepared by the conventional production process, the cost of titanium sponge accounts for about 40% of the total cost, while the cost of alloying element only accounts for 6.7% of the total cost.Smelting and deformation processing costs each account for about 20% of the total cost and about 26% of the total cost respectively.Therefore, it is an effective way to reduce the cost of titanium alloy to reduce the raw material cost and shorten the processing process.In addition, the commonly used smelting process of titanium alloy is VAR, which requires prepressing electrode.In order to ensure the strength of the electrode, the return material can only be added to the electrode in a small amount. The recovery efficiency is limited and the cost reduction is limited.The maturity of electron beam cold bed melting (EBCHM) technology provides an important technical approach for the low cost preparation of titanium alloys.EBCHM has the following advantages:

1) high and low density inclusions can be eliminated well, and uniform ingots can be obtained;

2) return materials can be used 100%, while VAR of ti-6al-4v alloy can only use less than 30% of return materials;

3) it can be smelted into ingot once;

4) flat ingot can be produced to reduce the amount of subsequent processing.In this study, EBCHM was used to replace traditional VAR, and TC4 titanium alloy flat ingot was produced by single smelting with a large amount of return materials.The 8 mm thick TC4 titanium alloy sheet was prepared by surface treatment of flat ingot and rolling directly after coating.At the same time, the manufacturing cost of VAR and EBCHM ingot was compared.
